Building a Custom-Made Kitchen for a Small Finca
Transforming a small finca in Alaró into a functional yet beautiful home meant creating a kitchen that would blend seamlessly into the living room. Designed in collaboration with William van Veldhoven, the project presented the unique challenge of working with irregular walls - something common in traditional Mallorcan homes.
Rather than fight the asymmetry, we embraced it, designing a bespoke kitchen that flows naturally with the curves and angles of the space. This makes the kitchen feel part of the living space rather than a separate entity.
Materials were an important part of the design. We chose cement for the worktops and cabinets, which gave a raw, industrial feel, complemented by the warmth and texture of wood in the shelving and accents. This combination of materials not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the kitchen, but also helped to balance the modern and rustic elements of the finca.
The challenge was to make the kitchen both visually striking and practical, as it had to function well in a compact space, while also withstanding the daily use of the owners. Maximising the small space required careful attention to storage and layout.
The end result is a kitchen that feels open, functional and beautifully integrated into the living room, a space the owners will enjoy for years to come.
